How to Use This Pack

One page to give on the first day of the unit on times as many, factors and multiples, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 3rd grade facts the unit builds on: multiplication and division facts to 10 × 10, a fact for an array, missing factors, skip counting and a times as many story. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.

In the Classroom

Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: factor pairs, multiples and primes all lean on the facts, so a student who misses several facts needs fact practice alongside the unit, and one who misses the array or the missing factors needs arrays drawn on grid paper before the rectangles lesson.

At Home

Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: practice the facts the pre-check missed, and skip count by 6s, 7s and 8s together.

Tips for Success

  • Give it before the first lesson, not after
  • Read the score as a starting point, not a grade
  • Keep a multiplication chart out for a student who missed several facts
  • The key names the lesson each question leads into

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • 3.OA.A.1 Understand a product as the total in equal groups, such as 4 × 6 meaning 4 groups with 6 in each.
  • 3.OA.A.4 Solve for the missing number in multiplying or dividing equations, such as 7 × ? = 42 or ? ÷ 3 = 6.
  • 3.OA.C.7 Multiply and divide to 100 fluently with strategies, and by year's end instantly recall every product of two single-digit numbers.
  • 3.OA.D.9 Spot patterns in addition tables, times tables and other arithmetic, and explain them with properties, like why multiples of 5 end in 0 or 5.
  • 4.OA.A.2 Multiply or divide to solve story problems that compare amounts (times as many), using drawings and equations, and tell them apart from comparing by adding.

4th Grade Factors and Multiples Pre-Check

A check to give before the unit on times as many, factors and multiples, on the 3rd grade facts it builds on. Students multiply and divide, write a fact for an array, find missing factors, skip count, and solve a times as many story.
