  • Tell which is longer and which is shorter
  • Tell which is taller and which is shorter

  • Measure with cubes and count blocks and cups

How to Use This Pack

Nine exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on measurement, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice, with room for big Kindergarten writing: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the sun. Circle the longer one." Children answer two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

Give the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson, at a table or on the rug with clipboards. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Tickets 11.7 (putting three things in order), 11.8 (measuring with cubes) and 11.9 (counting the blocks that balance a thing and the cups that fill it) are for the states that teach them in Kindergarten. The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing together. Read the question aloud, then compare real things at home: two spoons, two shoes, a cup and a bowl.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children circle or write one number
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • Line up real things at a start line before the length tickets
  • Show a real balance: the heavier side goes down
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.MD.A.1 Name the features of an object that can be measured, such as how long or how heavy it is, including several for one object.
  • K.MD.A.2 Put two objects side by side to see which is longer, taller, heavier and so on, and describe the difference.
  • 1.MD.A.1 Put three objects in order from longest to shortest, and compare two lengths by checking each against a third object.
  • 1.MD.A.2 Measure an object by lining up equal-size units (like cubes) along it without spaces or overlapping, and give the whole-number count.

Kindergarten Measurement Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on measurement, made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has two picture questions, answered by circling or writing one number, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children pick the tool that tells how heavy or how much a thing holds, circle the longer, shorter, taller, bigger and smaller thing, read a pan balance to find the heavier and lighter thing, and circle the container that holds more or less. Tickets 11.7 to 11.9 (putting three things in order, measuring with cubes that touch, and counting the blocks that balance a thing or the cups that fill it) are for the states that teach them. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
