How to Use This Pack

Twelve exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on money, patterns and the calendar, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice, with room for big Kindergarten writing and drawing: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the sun. Circle every quarter." Questions about pictures name them in the order they are shown, and each picture has its name under it. Children answer two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

This unit comes from state standards, so give only the tickets for the lessons your state teaches. Tickets 13.1 to 13.3 are coins: naming them (Georgia, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas), heads and tails (South Carolina, Texas) and what each is worth (Georgia). Tickets 13.4 and 13.5 (earning money, needs and wants) are Texas lessons. Tickets 13.6 and 13.7 (repeating patterns and the part that repeats) are taught in Georgia, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia, with Indiana for 13.6; 13.8 (growing patterns) in Indiana and Oklahoma; 13.9 (sharing fairly) in Oklahoma. Tickets 13.10 to 13.12 are the calendar: days of the week (Indiana, Oklahoma, Virginia), months (Indiana, Virginia) and times of day (Georgia, Indiana, Oklahoma, Virginia). Sort the tickets into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after a coin hunt in a pocket or a jar, or after talking about yesterday, today and tomorrow at breakfast. Read the question aloud and let your child point before answering.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children circle, write one number or draw
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • Name each choice as you point to it, so no child has to read a word
  • Hold up real coins: children know them by size and color better than by pictures
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.MD.B.3 Sort objects into named groups, count each group (up to 10), and order the groups by how many they hold.

Kindergarten Money, Patterns and Calendar Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on money, patterns and the calendar, a unit that comes from state standards (Common Core has none of it in Kindergarten), made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has two picture questions, answered by circling, writing one number, drawing a shape or drawing a line, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children name and match coins, count coins showing heads, tell what a penny, nickel and dime are worth, pick the way to earn money and the need or the want, continue repeating and growing patterns, circle the part that repeats, share fairly, find tomorrow and yesterday, count the Fridays in a month and put the parts of a day in order. Every ticket is a state lesson: tickets 13.1 to 13.3 are coins, 13.4 and 13.5 are Texas money lessons, 13.6 to 13.8 are patterns, 13.9 is sharing and 13.10 to 13.12 are the calendar. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
