How to Use This Pack

Ten exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on number pairs and making 10, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice, with room for big Kindergarten writing: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the sun. How many more dots make 5?" Children answer one or two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

Give the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson, at a table or on the rug with clipboards. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Ticket 8.9 (the equal sign: both sides the same) is a Kindergarten lesson in Florida only. The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing together. Read the question aloud and let your child count on fingers or with small things like buttons or cereal.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children circle, write one number or draw dots
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • Ten fingers make a good ten frame: hold up 7 and count the fingers that are down
  • Two-color counters (or coins, heads and tails) show the ways to make a number
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.OA.A.2 Solve story problems and add or subtract with totals up to 10, modeling them with objects or drawings.
  • K.OA.A.3 Break a number up to 10 into two parts several ways, recording each as a picture or equation (7 = 3 + 4).
  • K.OA.A.4 For a number from 1 to 9, find the partner that adds with it to 10, and show it in a picture or number sentence.
  • 1.OA.D.7 Know the equal sign means both sides have the same value, and decide whether addition and subtraction equations hold true.

Kindergarten Number Pairs and Making 10 Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on number pairs and making 10, made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has one or two picture questions, answered by circling, writing one number or drawing dots, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children find how many more make 5 and 10, fill in number bonds, find the domino or the two cards that make a number, count two-color counters, write a number pair as a number sentence (4 = 3 + 1), write the partners of 10 and solve number pair stories. Ticket 8.9 (the equal sign: which one is the same as 5 + 1) is for Florida. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
