Twelve exit tickets, one for each lesson of the 4th grade unit on lines, angles and shapes, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket four times: copy the page, cut on the dashed lines, and seven copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. A ticket takes a few minutes at the end of the lesson. Students answer two quick questions, then circle a face beside the lesson's "I can" line to show how sure they feel.
Hand out the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson and collect them at the door. Students need a protractor for tickets 14.5 and 14.6; every angle is a whole number of degrees at its true size, so it measures right on a copy of any size. Sort the tickets into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Tickets 14.10 (the quadrilateral family: Indiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia) and 14.12 (solid figures: Oklahoma, Virginia) are for the states that teach them in 4th grade. The drawing questions have more than one right answer where the key says "One way". The unit test is a separate pack and asks none of these problems.
Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing a skill together. Open a door part way and talk about the turn, and look for right angles and parallel lines in windows, books and tables.

Exit tickets for every lesson of a unit on lines, angles and shapes. Each page holds one ticket four times to cut apart, with lines and rays to name and draw, angles to sort, measure and draw with a protractor, triangles and shapes to sort, and lines of symmetry.
