Eleven exit tickets, one for each lesson of the 5th grade unit on data and probability, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket four times: copy the page, cut on the dashed lines, and seven copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. A ticket takes a few minutes at the end of the lesson. Students answer two quick questions, then circle a face beside the lesson's "I can" line to show how sure they feel.
Hand the tickets out in the last five minutes of the lesson and collect them at the door. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Tickets 15.1 and 15.2 are the line plot lessons every class teaches. Tickets 15.3 to 15.11 are for the states that teach collecting data, the mean, median, mode and range, stem-and-leaf plots, line and double bar graphs, scatterplots, histograms, circle graphs and probability in 5th grade: use the ones your class learns. No ticket asks a problem from the practice sheets the lesson plans use.
Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing a skill together. Measure a few things around the house to the nearest eighth of an inch and make a line plot, or put colored blocks in a bag and write the probability of picking each color.

Exit tickets for every lesson of a unit on line plots, data and probability. Students make and use line plots, find the mean, median, mode and range, read tables and graphs of many kinds, and write probabilities from 0 to 1.
