Eight exit tickets, one for each lesson of a unit on dividing whole numbers by 2-digit numbers, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket four times: copy the page, cut on the dashed lines, and seven copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. A ticket takes a few minutes at the end of the lesson. Students answer two short questions, such as a division in the bracket, an estimate to check an answer or a story with a remainder, then circle a face beside the lesson's "I can" line to show how sure they feel.
Hand out the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson and collect them at the door. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. The keys show partial quotients by place value and estimates from the divisor rounded to the nearest ten; other partial quotients that add to the same quotient, and other numbers that divide easily, are right too. The faces show how students feel about the lesson, the answers show what they can do; the two do not always agree. Ticket 4.7 is for the states that teach remainders as fractions and decimals in 5th grade; skip it if your class does not. No ticket asks a problem from the practice sheets the lesson plans use.
Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing division together. Ask your child to estimate first, then divide, and to check the quotient by multiplying it by the divisor and adding the remainder.

Exit tickets for every lesson of a unit on dividing whole numbers by 2-digit numbers, from dividing by multiples of 10 to long division with zeros in the quotient. Students estimate, divide with area models, partial quotients and the standard algorithm, and decide what a remainder means, one quick ticket at the end of each lesson.
