How to Use This Pack

Five pages about size, all with animals. On page 1 each box has two of the same animal, one big and one small: circle the bigger one. Page 2 asks for the smaller one. Page 3 has rows of three, a small, a middle-sized and a big animal, to circle the biggest. Page 4 lines up two caterpillars or two worms at a start line: circle the longer one. On page 5 students write 1, 2 and 3 under three animals, from the smallest to the biggest.

In the Classroom

Line up three stuffed animals or blocks of different sizes and talk through small, bigger and biggest before handing out the pages. For page 4, lay two pieces of string from the same edge of a table and ask which is longer: it only works if they start at the same place.

At Home

Compare things at home: whose shoe is bigger, which spoon is longer, which cup is the smallest. Line up three toys from smallest to biggest together.

Tips for Success

  • Look at the whole animal, not just its head
  • To compare length, start both things at the same line
  • Bigger, smaller, longer and shorter compare two things; biggest compares more than two
  • Say the size words out loud as you circle
