Skills Covered

  • Write the days of the week in order across a calendar
  • Start a month on the right day of the week
  • Write the dates in order, a new row each Sunday
  • Use the number of days in a month
  • Read the finished calendar to answer questions
  • Find a missing date from the dates around it

How to Use This Pack

Five pages for making calendars. Page 1 is a blank month with lines for the month, the days of the week and the dates, and three sentences to finish; print it for any month. Pages 2, 3 and 5 give clues, such as September has 30 days and September 1 is a Tuesday: students write the month name, the days of the week (Sun, Mon, ...) and every date, then answer three questions about their calendar. February starts on a Sunday and fills exactly four weeks. Page 4 has October's name and weekdays printed with only some dates, so students fill in the rest.

In the Classroom

Use page 1 at the start of each month to make a class calendar together, then add birthdays and events. Before page 2, show where the 1st goes: find the right day in the top row and count from there.

At Home

Make next month's calendar together on page 1 and add the family's plans, birthdays and holidays.

Tips for Success

  • Write the days of the week first, Sunday to Saturday
  • Find the day for the 1st, then count on one square at a time
  • Start a new row after every Saturday
  • Check that the last date matches the number of days in the month
